ABCore (AB Core) is the EVM-compatible Layer 1 main chain of the AB blockchain network, the project formerly known as Newton. It uses AB as its gas token and is designed to sit at the center of a set of industry-specific sidechains.

Network: ABCore
Type: EVM
Chain ID: 36888
Slug: abcore
Native token: AB (AB)
Block time: ~3.0 seconds (measured)

About ABCore

Newton rebranded as AB in February 2025, and AB Core and the AB bridge mainnets were live by Q2 2025. AB Core runs a fork of Geth with proof-of-authority consensus; AB's documentation recommends treating a transaction as secure after 20 block confirmations.

AB Core supports standard EVM contracts, but only up to the Berlin hard fork: there is no EIP-1559, so block headers lack baseFeePerGas and transactions should use legacy gas pricing. Because the consensus has no finality gadget, apps should rely on confirmation depth rather than the safe or finalized block tags.

Common Use Cases on ABCore

  • Transferring and holding AB
  • EVM smart contracts with legacy gas pricing
  • Bridging assets via the AB bridge
  • Anchoring AB industry sidechains
