About Bitlayer

Bitlayer PoS (Mainnet-V1) launched in early April 2024, alongside the project's technical white paper. Bitlayer shipped a BitVM bridge to mainnet beta in July 2025, but disabled bridge-in on May 28, 2026 and gave YBTC holders until June 3, 2026 to bridge back; no relaunch has been announced. The chain itself continues to produce blocks.

Bitlayer is EVM-compatible, so Solidity contracts and standard Ethereum JSON-RPC tooling work. BTC on Bitlayer uses 18 decimals rather than Bitcoin's 8, and the network enforces a minimum priority fee of 0.025 gwei; use eth_gasPrice or eth_maxPriorityFeePerGas to estimate fees. BTR is the project's separate token.

Common Use Cases on Bitlayer

  • BTC-denominated DeFi
  • Deploying existing EVM contracts with BTC gas
  • Bitcoin asset indexing and wallets
  • Testing BitVM-related applications
