About Cronos

Cronos mainnet launched in November 2021 as an Ethereum-compatible chain running an Ethermint EVM module on top of the Cosmos SDK. It uses a Tendermint-derived proof-of-authority/proof-of-stake consensus, producing blocks roughly every 0.4 seconds (measured at ~0.42s over a million-block window in September 2026), each final as soon as it is committed.

Because it is built on Cosmos, Cronos connects to other Cosmos chains through the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol while still letting developers deploy Solidity contracts with standard Ethereum tooling. It targets DeFi, GameFi, and consumer applications, aided by its integration with the Crypto.com app.

Common Use Cases on Cronos

  • DeFi protocols and DEXes
  • GameFi and NFT applications
  • Low-fee token transfers and payments
  • Cross-chain transfers via IBC
  • Crypto.com app integrations

Cronos Ecosystem

Notable projects include VVS Finance, Ferro, Tectonic, and Crypto.com's own DeFi and NFT integrations.

Frequently Asked Questions: Cronos

What's Cronos's chain ID?

Cronos EVM mainnet is chain ID 25.

Is Cronos built on Ethereum or Cosmos?

Cronos is a Cosmos SDK chain with an Ethermint EVM module, so it is EVM-compatible while also supporting Cosmos IBC interoperability.

How many decimals does CRO have on Cronos EVM?

CRO on the Cronos EVM chain uses 18 decimals, consistent with standard EVM gas-token denomination.

Is WebSocket supported?

Yes - SwiftNodes provides HTTP and WebSocket (wss://) endpoints with eth_subscribe support.
