RPC method

eth_gasPrice on Monad

Supported on SwiftNodes

Everything below was measured on 2026-10-13 by calling eth_gasPrice on Monad through the same endpoint customers use, and is re-measured weekly.

What eth_gasPrice does

Returns the node's suggested gas price in wei for a legacy (type 0) transaction. On EIP-1559 chains it is usually the current base fee plus a suggested tip, which can sit well above what transactions actually pay.

eth_gasPrice on Monad: what we measured

eth_gasPrice102 gwei
Base fee of the latest block100 gwei
eth_maxPriorityFeePerGas2.00 gwei
Median tip paid (last 20 blocks)3.00 gwei

Should you use it?

eth_gasPrice (102 gwei) was within 1% of the base fee plus the median tip paid (103 gwei), so it is a reasonable default on Monad.

Example request

curl -s https://rpc.swiftnodes.io/rpc/monad?key=YOUR_API_KEY \
  -X POST -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"eth_gasPrice","params":[]}'
import { createPublicClient, http } from "viem";

const client = createPublicClient({
  transport: http("https://rpc.swiftnodes.io/rpc/monad?key=YOUR_API_KEY"),
});

const gasPrice = await client.getGasPrice(); // legacy price, wei

// EIP-1559 fees from recent blocks instead of the suggestion
const { baseFeePerGas, reward } = await client.getFeeHistory({ blockCount: 20, rewardPercentiles: [50] });
const tips = reward!.map((r) => r[0]).sort((a, b) => (a < b ? -1 : a > b ? 1 : 0));
const maxPriorityFeePerGas = tips[10];
const maxFeePerGas = baseFeePerGas.at(-1)! * 2n + maxPriorityFeePerGas;
